TERN

Named after the migrating bird of the Nordic regions, Tern crafts contemporary arrangements of traditional and original material, which draw on the music of Shetland, Mainland Scotland, and Scandinavia. Exploring the connections between the music of their homelands, Tern challenges listeners, inviting audiences on an exciting, cross-cultural journey, deeply rooted in a Nordic soundscape.

Tern is a 5-piece band consisting of Lea Søndergaard Larsen (DK - Bodhran), Rose Logan (SC - Fiddle), Kristina Leesik (SE - Fiddle), Miguel Girão (PT - Guitar) and Amy Laurenson (SC - Piano).

DEBUT ALBUM

Terns' debut album Flyway celebrates the cultural interchange between Scotland and Scandinavia including traditional tunes as well as modern compositions. All of the music was selected and arranged collaboratively by the band and showcases the individuality of all 5 members in a musical setting that shifts focus between tone and texture, contemplative moods and bursts of energy, all encompassed in a deep search for voicing of place and the acknowledgment of the importance of traditional arts in the times we live in and the times yet to come.

Flyway will be out on the 7th of Febuary 2025.

SHETLAND REELS

Tern recorded the music video for Shetland Reels at the Pianodrome in Edinburgh with Nicky Murray photogrophy on one cold January day, embrasing the music in a magical setting, keeping warm in Scandinavian and Shetland knitware.
